CHAIR CAR or BUS TECHNICIAN

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

  • Provider of safe and efficient care and transportation to non-ambulatory or disabled person(s) normally confined to a wheelchair or in need of other patient assist devices.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Assigned Base Supervisor, Director of Chair Car, S-1


RESPONSIBILITY:

  • The Chair Car  or Bus Technician is directly responsible to the shift supervisor.
  • The primary functional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Read and understand the company’s Policy and Procedure Manual.
    • Reporting on time and in uniform for their assigned shift in good mental and physical health.
    • Ensure that assigned vehicle is stocked, serviced, and cleaned as specified by the daily checklist.
    • Assure all biomedical equipment is checked, operated, and maintained in accordance with manufacturer’s standards.
    • Perform, with a good attitude, all job tasks assigned by the Base Supervisor or other managerial personnel.
    • Maintain the base living quarters (bunkroom, TV room, bathrooms, garage bay, etc.) in clean and sanitary condition.
    • Greet all inspection personnel both within the company and State or local officials, professionally, courteously, and with enthusiasm.


SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • The duties of the Chair Car or Bus Technician include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:
    • Upon receiving the vehicle assignment at the start of shift, the Chair Car or Bus Technician will do the following during the first 15-20 minutes of shift: complete equipment checklist; check fluid levels, visual inspection of lights and exterior; restock equipment; and inform Shift Supervisor/Dispatcher of any deficiencies or problems. Sign on air with dispatch reporting in service and giving vehicle mileage.
    • If a call precludes the above, it will be accomplished at the earliest possible time.
    • Responds to facilities or specific addresses as instructed by dispatch to provide care and transportation to non-ambulatory or disabled persons. While on the road, ensure that constant communication contact is maintained with dispatch.
    • Operate the chair car or bus or bus or bus or bus or bus or bus or bus or bus in a safe and reasonable manner and in accordance with the laws of Due Regard.
    • Complete the appropriate documentation on all calls in a legible manner and to the standard expected within the company.
    • Carry out all assignments in a timely and professional manner.
    • Ensure that vehicle is appropriately stocked, cleaned (vehicle trash can emptied, vehicle washed inside and out).
    • While on the road, ensure that constant communication contact is maintained between crew and dispatch.
    • While on duty, have on your person all appropriate credentials and driver’s license.
    • Familiarize self with service area and facilities.
    • Maintain professional radio procedures in accordance with the policy and procedures of the company.
    • Conduct oneself so as to never endanger a patient, or the credibility of the company.
    • Serve as a “Team Member” and as such adopt a “whatever it takes to get the job done” attitude.


MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE:

  • The measurement of performance will include:
    • The ability exhibited to ensure quality care and transportation to the patients and facilities who request the services of the company.
    • The timeliness of the completion of all tasks assigned to him/her.
    • The ability to perform as a Staff Chair Car or Bus Technician in a cooperative fashion with their coworkers and management.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • The Requirements to maintain employment will include:
    • Ability to read, understand, and communicate in English.
    • Ability to lift and carry 125 pounds.
    • Maintain an active Driver’s License.
    • Maintain all appropriate and mandate credentials as defined by the company.
